The First Development Champions Forum

The first Development Champions Forum (DCF) brought together some 25 Development Champions on April 29 – May 1, 2017. The DCF convenes local voices from the social, humanitarian, development and economic fields, who are senior experts and professionals with in-depth knowledge and extensive experience.

During the first DCF, the Development Champions learned about the design of the project and the expectations of their roles. They then delved into in-depth discussions and developed practical interventions to tackle the multiple urgent economic challenges facing Yemen. These challenges were identified within three key, if overlapping, categories: the food security crisis, the problems faced by the banking industry, and the collapse of basic service delivery. To address these issues, the Development Champions offered practical recommendations; see this policy brief for further details.

During subsequent discussions, the Development Champions identified and prioritized three key issues to focus on for the project’s initial set of white papers: post-conflict reconstruction, local governance, and the role of the private sector. These topics are discussed at length in the following papers:

– An Institutional Framework for Post-Conflict Reconstruction

– Private Sector Engagement in Post-Conflict Yemen

– Local Governance in Yemen Amid Conflict and Instability
